
Levi H. Morris
December 2, 1869 - May 10, 1951
Mr. Morris was born in Hampton Township and attended local schools, including the Newton Collegiate Institute. He later attended State Model School in Trenton and Eastman's Business College in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1895, he began studying law under the tutelage of Theodore Simonson and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1899. Shortly thereafter, he set up his practice in Newton. In 1917, Mr. Morris partnered with Charles T. Downing to form the firm of Morris & Downing. Mr. Morris was active in a variety of community affairs and local politics. Among the positions he held are:

Treasurer of the New Jersey Bankers Association
Vice President of the New Jersey Bankers Association
President of the New Jersey Bankers Association
Counsel to the Board of Freeholders
President of Newton Trust Company
President of the Board of Trustees of the Newton Presbyterian Church
Member of the Board of Directors of the Newton Cemetery Association
President of H. W. Merriam Shoe Company Building and Loan Association
Instrumental in forming and served as President of the Sussex County Bar Association
