New Jersey drunk driving accident kills firefighter

A drunk driving accident in New Jersey has taken the life of a New York firefighter with more than 30 years of service. According to police, the drunk driver's car slammed into the motorcycle being driven by the victim, killing him on the scene. Police also stated this is the same location where a similar accident occurred just two weeks ago and witnesses say it is a problem area where speeders abound. The drunk driver was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.

Car Accidents like this often cause serious injury and, sadly, death. A fatal accident can leave a family stunned, unsure of what to do next. They may be left without much needed emotional and financial support and must face important life events without their loved one's presence. Also, funeral costs and medical expenses can further the financial difficulties presented by the absence of the deceased's income.

In such a tragic situation it may be difficult to think about recovering compensation for damages. Yet, it may be the best way for an accident victim and/or his family to obtain the money they need to get life back to as close to normal as possible while also punishing the individual responsible for the accident. Even if it seems complicated or the family does not feel like dealing with a lawsuit, an experienced attorney can make the process as smooth as possible for the family while zealously advocating for them.

By attempting to prove the defendant was negligent and that negligence caused the accident which in turned caused the victim's injuries or death, an attorney will seek to recover compensation for the victim and/or his family. These awards, if obtained, can be used to pay off medical debt, funeral costs, pain and suffering, and lost wages. These recoveries may allow the family to move on with life and to live it fully just as their loved one might have wanted them to live.
