New Jersey teen defeats odds, walks again

A spinal cord injury due to a car accident can be devastating. It can affect a person's stability, sense of mobility and sometimes can even confine someone to a wheelchair. Advances in medicine are rapidly increasing, but care for spinal cord injuries can still be expensive and burdensome for victims and their families. A New Jersey resident involved in a car accident may be entitled to compensation for the expenses involved in spinal cord recovery.

In October of 2012, a 17-year-old high school student got into a crash where his car flipped and flew into a wooded area near Freehold, New Jersey. He suffered a severe spinal cord injury where the upper and lower parts of his torso were disconnected. The doctors expected him to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. But, after a year of extensive rehab and sheer determination, he was able to stand up and walk.

Advances in medicine have led to many things that doctors did not think were possible. But injuries suffered in a car crash can still be placed on permanent disability. Spinal cord injuries differ from person to person and event to event. Even a small event can trigger a long-term injury. Finding compensation for expensive medical treatment is important, especially if another person acted negligently.

Although it is a good thing that advances in medicine occur constantly, these cutting edge treatments can be prohibitively expensive. After a spinal cord injury of any sort, finding compensation for expenses is of utmost importance. Laws vary from state to state, so being on top of the latest statutes in New Jersey can help recover following an injury.
