Falls lead to more spinal cord injuries in New Jersey

One of the devastating parts of having a spinal cord injury is the unknown. An injury like that can have serious repercussions for your future. There have been advances in medicine, but, unfortunately, a serious injury involving your spinal cord can lead to permanent disability, lost income and a long road to recovery. Many accidents that end in a spinal cord injury can lead to high medical costs.

According to a new study from the John Hopkins University School of Medicine, most spinal cord injuries among people aged 65 and older result from falls. Researchers found that among elderly people who suffer spinal cord injuries, they are four times more likely to die from their injuries while in the emergency room than younger people. One of the suggestions from the study says that the focus should be on preventing elderly persons from falling.

An accident at work from a fall can lead to a significant injury, especially if you are elderly. You may experience symptoms such as temporary numbness, poor mobility and even full paralysis. A back injury due to a car accident or fall can take a significant toll on your body. If you are injured at work or due to the negligence of someone else, you may be entitled to compensation. A claim for a spinal cord injury can be very difficult, so it's important to be familiar with New Jersey's laws regarding these situations.

For people of any age, a spinal cord injury can lead to serious medical expenses. You should be entitled to compensation if you are hurt at work or due to someone else's negligence. The John Hopkins study shows that elderly people who suffer falls are especially prone to serious medical problems. Back injury claims may result in compensation that can help you pay for expenses related to your disability and rehabilitation.
