The importance of creating a parenting plan

All New Jersey parents who are going through a divorce, should have a parenting plan that sets the boundaries and provides stability for the children. Sharing the children can go past the day they turn 18, especially when grandchildren show up. By coming up with a parenting plan when the children are young, arguments and future problems can be kept to a minimum.

Signs of worn brakes and other problems

There are several signs drivers in New Jersey can use to tell if their brakes are wearing out. One of the clearest is that the brakes squeal at stops. This signals that the brake pads have worn down so much that the indicator, a small piece of metal, is scraping on the rotor. However, the indicator might also fall off, and some brake pads do not have an indicator. Therefore, it is important to know other signs of failing brakes as well.

Auto brake systems due in all U.S. vehicles by 2022

On March 17, a group of major automakers announced that automatic emergency braking systems will be included in most new cars and light trucks sold in New Jersey and across the U.S. by September 2022. The companies that agreed to the pledge include General Motors, Ford, Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co., Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Volkswagen AG.

Fatigued driving difficult to measure for truckers

Truck driver fatigue is a serious problem in New Jersey and around the country. Fatigued driving, however, is notoriously difficult to measure by law enforcement. In 2011, the Minnesota State Police made a checklist that troopers used to try to determine if a truck driver was driving while tired. The checklist was found to be a violation of the drivers' Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure, however.

Allegations of domestic violence during custody disputes

New Jersey residents may be aware that several scientific studies have found that individuals who suffer mistreatment as children are more likely to mete out abuse as adults. Children who are physically abused by their parents often develop psychological issues and emotional problems that can last a lifetime, and they are far more likely to develop substance abuse problems and drop out of school. Courts are meant to make custody decisions based on the child's best interests, but studies indicate that allegations of domestic violence are often given scant attention and are sometimes ignored altogether.

Self-driving car responsible for crash

New Jersey motorists may be interested to know that representatives from Google admitted that one of its self-driving cars was partially to blame for an accident that took place on Feb. 14. The minor accident took place in Mountain View, California, and it involved a city bus and a Lexus 450 hybrid SUV that had Google's technology installed. Just prior to the crash, the self-driving SUV was attempting to make a right hand turn when it had to get closer to the center of the road to avoid sand bags.

How employers can make work safe for employees

A New Jersey worker who is injured on the job often face medical bills and lost income. For employers, an injury can reduce productivity and employee morale. However, there are certain things employers can do to prevent workplace injuries and keep employees safe.

More Takata airbag inflators might be recalled

New Jersey drivers with vehicles that have airbag inflators manufactured by Takata Corp. might be included in the air bag inflator recall if they have not been already. The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation put together a report that shows the company had quality control problems at its North American plants and manipulated tests to hide problems.
