Charles Saatchi filing for divorce from Nigella Lawson

Celebrities have long had the eyes and ears of their personal lives scrutinized. The public appreciates stories showing celebrities with the same challenges faced by everyone else. Celebrities are not immune to relationship struggles, disputes, physical abuse and divorce.

Recently, the husband of celebrity chef Nigella Lawson announced his plans to file for divorce. In June, the couple was photographed outside of a restaurant with his hands around her neck in an alleged choking position. Mr. Saatchi claims that this photograph was just a playful move on his part during a conversation he was having with his wife about their children. He says that he did not physically abuse his wife and that he detests physical violence against any woman. Mr. Saatchi remarks that he believes he has been a disappointment to his wife recently and that he will be filing for divorce.

Women are often victims of physical and emotional abuse by their spouses, but men can also be victims. Domestic violence can include child abuse and any kind of mistreatment towards a spouse. Physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, economic abuse, psychological abuse, threats, stalking and online cyber stalking are all forms of domestic abuse. New Jersey residents who receive constant harassing text messages or emails may be able to obtain a restraining order with that evidence. This order of protection is often the first step in dealing with a domestic violence situation.

When there is a divorce involving an element of domestic violence, emotions often are charged and allegations may be numerous. In this situation, seeking a guide through the legal system can help a person protect his or her rights.
