2 men injured in head-on collision on Route 206

According to the New Jersey State Police, a 45-year-old man from Mt. Arlington was listed in serious condition, while a 32-year-old man from Sandyston was listed in stable condition after their two vehicles collided on Dec. 24. Responders took both drivers to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Elderly woman killed in 2-car crash

A two-car crash on Route 66 in New Jersey resulted in the death of an 80-year-old woman on Dec. 14. The accident occurred in front of a Home Depot store in Neptune at about 8:25 a.m. The drivers were the only people involved in the accident.

10 bus passengers injured in crash

On Dec. 17, ten bus passengers were injured in a four-vehicle accident on the northbound New Jersey Turnpike near exit 13. The accident involved a NJ Transit commuter bus and three tractor-trailers. According to initial reports, no criminal charges were immediately filed as a result of the accident. However, a truck driver who was involved is believed to be the person responsible for the chain-reaction crash.

Fiery accident kills 1, critically injures fuel tank driver

According to state police in New Jersey, a fiery collision involving a car, a fuel tanker and another semi-truck on Route 78 killed one driver and critically injured the driver of the fuel tanker truck. Reportedly, the crash occurred on Dec. 6 on the highway near the Garden State Parkway ramp's entrance to the highway.

New Jersey is home to many motorcycle riders who take pride in the freedom that riding can bring. This enhanced freedom comes along with some enhanced risk on the road. Motorcycle riders are 30 times more likely to be killed in a vehicle accident than drivers of other types of vehicles. A few valuable safety tips can keep riders safe and protected on the road.

Suspect found in hit-and-run pedestrian death

Two weeks after a hit-and-run accident that allegedly killed a woman, authorities with the Essex County Police Department reported they have found a man whom they believe was driving the van that struck the woman on the day of the incident. The accident occurred on Nov. 15 around 12:00 p.m. in Nutley.

Texting and driving dangers in New Jersey

Individuals in New Jersey may not realize how dangerous texting and driving can be. According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, a driver who is text messaging is 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash than one who is not. More than 10 percent of drivers who are between the ages of 18 and 20 and who were in an automobile accident reported that when the crash occurred, they were either sending or receiving a text.

Popular toys found not to be safe for children

New Jersey parents may want to be especially vigilant while doing their holiday shopping this year. On Nov. 26, authorities reported that several popular children's toys may potentially be dangerous for children. Reportedly, the New York State Division of Consumer Protection, or DCP, found the toys to contain lead or sharp edges.

Whiplash injuries and motor vehicle accidents

New Jersey residents may be interested to learn that whiplash is a very common type of injury that can occur when people are involved in a motor vehicle collision. The injury is caused by a sudden movement forward followed by a sudden movement backward of the head and neck, with the acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle having the potential to hyper-extend the tissues and muscles in the neck.
