Accident on expressway kills 2, injures 1

The New Jersey State Police reported a fatal two-vehicle accident took place in Hamilton Township on March 20. The crash occurred at around 1:29 p.m. on the Atlantic City Expressway when a 35-year-old man lost control of his vehicle. Two people died in the collision that happened at mile-marker 20.4 on the westbound side of the expressway.

The Egg Harbor Township man was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty when it crashed into a 38-year-old Linwood man's 2003 BMW while it was stopped on the right shoulder. The BMW driver had stopped to check on a flat tire when the Jeep hit and tossed him, and the Jeep caught on fire after the accident. The driver of the Jeep and a 31-year-old female passenger needed to be removed from the vehicle, and all three people were taken to AtlantiCare Medical Center.

The driver of the BMW was reportedly in stable condition after the wreck, but the two occupants of the Jeep Liberty died at the hospital. The authorities are still investigating why the accident took place.

When one suffers injuries after a motor vehicle accident, a personal injury suit may be filed to recover costs related to the crash that may result from medical expenses or property damage. A victim may be entitled to compensation when a negligent driver caused the accident that resulted in those injuries. A driver might lose control of a vehicle due to traveling at a high speed or to being impaired or distracted. These types of behaviors can constitute negligence, and the driver could subsequently be held responsible for the resulting damages.
