Man seriously injured by hit-and-run driver

On April 16, a 43-year-old New Jersey woman was handed several criminal charges stemming from a hit-and-run accident that had taken place one week earlier. According to New Jersey State Police, the accused woman struck a man in Bloomfield and then left the scene of the accident. The 63-year-old man who was hit by the woman's vehicle was seriously injured.

The hit-and-run car accident occurred while the woman was driving southbound along the Garden State Parkway in a 2014 Nissan Altima. Shortly before 1 a.m. on April 9, the woman hit a man who was changing a flat tire by the side of the road. Police say that before the woman fled the scene, she stopped for a moment in order to collect some debris from her vehicle.

The injured victim in the accident sustained a compound fracture in his right leg. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment after the crash. When the hit-and-run driver was located, she was issued several criminal charges including leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury and assault by auto. She was held at Essex County Jail on $50,000 bail.
