Nearly 3 million Samsung washing machines recalled

New Jersey residents with Samsung washing machines may want to check whether their machines are involved in a November recall. Samsung US has recalled 2.8 million of them over injury concerns. The top-loading washing machines were manufactured beginning in March 2011. Consumers who would like to view a full list of the recalled washing machine models can go to the company's website.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Samsung issued the voluntary recall after it learned about nine consumer injury incidents. Owners of Samsung washing machines sustained injuries that included a broken jaw after the top separated from the washer. It is unclear whether any of the injured people have filed products liability lawsuits against the manufacturer.

In a statement posted to its corporate blog, Samsung said that the washing machine drums on the recalled machines could lose balance and trigger excessive vibrations. The vibrations can cause the top to come off of the washing machines. Samsung is offering free in-home repairs for people who own washing machines affected by the recall. The company is also giving some customers $150 towards the purchase of a new washing machine.

A person who has been injured by a Samsung washing machine or another dangerous product may want to meet with a personal injury attorney to see what recourse they may have. Under products liability law, the financial responsibility for a plaintiff's losses lies not only with the manufacturer but with other parties such as wholesalers, distributors and other parties that have been part of the product's chain of distribution.
